Screen size & viewing distance
Pick a screen too small and it's ignored; too big and it's wasted budget. Sizing is a simple relationship between how far away viewers are and what you want them to do.
The sizing ratio
Two practical rules. For detailed content (menus, schedules, dense info): screen diagonal ≈ viewing distance ÷ 4. For headline / glance content: diagonal ≈ distance ÷ 6. So detailed content read from 10 ft (120") wants ≈ a 30" diagonal minimum; from 20 ft, ≈ 60". Round up — under-sizing is the common regret.

- 6 ft (1.8m): detailed ≈ 18–24", headline ≈ 15".
- 10 ft (3m): detailed ≈ 30–32", headline ≈ 22–24".
- 15 ft (4.6m): detailed ≈ 43–48", headline ≈ 32".
- 20 ft (6m): detailed ≈ 60–65", headline ≈ 43".
- 30 ft (9m): detailed ≈ 86"+ or video wall, headline ≈ 60–65".
Tie it to text size
The screen only works if the text on it is legible — the two calculations go together. Once the panel size is set, size type with the typography & viewing-distance rule (≈1" of cap height per 10 ft).
Context adjustments
Go a size up for moving viewers (they glance briefly), bright ambient light, or wide viewing angles. For very long distances, a single large panel or an LED video wall beats several small screens.
